Blog
Bye bye blog
As you have stumbled across this site you will notice that I haven’t blogged for over a year. There is no point pretending, this blogging business isn’t for me.
Stop jQuery loading in Wordpress
If, like me, you use Wordpress a lot, and you use MooTools as your main javascript library, you’ll probably have noticed that Wordpress calls the jQuery library automatically.
HTML5 article element
I completely forgot to mention on here that a couple of months ago I wrote an post over at HTML5 Doctor on the new HTML5 element - the article element.
Just Married
I know I haven’t written an article on here for several months (I have no excuse) but I thought I’d break that silence with some personal news – I just got married!
A quick show off
A very quick update to show off having my name mentioned in a book. The HTML5 Doctors, got a mention in the HTML & XHTML Pocket Reference 4th Edition from O’Reilly.
HTML5 Meter Tag
Just a very quick blog post here (well, it’s barely a post I suppose). Last month I wrote an article for HTML5 Doctor - Measure up with the Meter tag.
HTML5 runnin’ wild
It has been far too long since my last post. Reasons for this? Well I bought a new house which is cool and I got a new job which is also cool. Mix that with a splash of laziness and you get three months without writing. So what’s been going on?
HTML5
I redesigned this site in November, which gave me the chance to use ExpressionEngine. I quickly grow bored of the things I do for myself so I fancied another redesign and this time around I wanted to use HTML5 and see what it was all the fuss was about.
Social bookmarks code for .NET
For a recent project, built with asp.net and Visual Studio 2008, I needed to create buttons for social bookmarks - Digg, Delicious, etc. It is pretty straightforward actually so I thought I’d share the code.
March wallpaper
After designing a wallpaper for February, I thought I would carry on the theme. Ok, I’m eleven days overdue with this one, but better late than never!
Highlight navigation in ExpressionEngine
Just a quick one to show how I highlight the navigation so that the user knows what section they are in. I use the URL segment variables to highlight the navigation.
A February wallpaper
Sitting inside yesterday evening, I felt the need to create a wallpaper. Outside it was dark, snowy and pretty miserable to be honest. So I opened up Photoshop and dug out some grunge brushes.
ExpressionEngine and I, part 2
In Part 1, I talked about how I got started with ExpressionEngine and some of the problems and disappointments I faced. It probably came across as pretty negative.
That was not my intention, because overall, I really do like ExpressionEngine. So, some of the things I like…
ExpressionEngine and I
I had needed to redesign my site and get a blog going for sometime. I have made several sites using Wordpress so this time I wanted to try another CMS. Textpattern was an option but in the end I went with ExpressionEngine which recently seemed to be getting a fair bit of exposure.
A new design
I’ve always found designing for myself pretty damn hard, and this time was no exception. What colours, what logo, what style of site? It is a lot easier for me working with someone else or for someone else’s site. Still, I did enjoy it, it’s nice being able to take a bit more time and experiment with things when there is no set deadline.
